Hi, I’m Maria

Thrive and Flow grew from many parts of my life — being a mother, a teacher, years spent in the corporate world, and a lifelong connection with yoga and mindful practice.

Over the years, I’ve seen how even a few quiet, intentional moments can help us pause, reset, and   move  through life with a little more awareness and balance.

My Background

As a mother of two teenagers, I understand the pace and pressure of modern life — the noise, the expectations, and the constant balancing of responsibilities. Yoga gradually became more than movement for me; it became a way to pause, breathe, and reconnect. Through this, I came to see that caring for our bodies and minds is not just restorative — it shapes how we respond to challenges, how we relate to others, and how we move through everyday life.

My professional journey has always centred around people and learning. During my Master’s in Education, I focused on person-centred approaches and explored how children flourish when they feel understood, supported, and emotionally safe.

I later taught with the British Council in Hong Kong, working with children aged 3–15, and then in private schools in Thailand, where I delivered programmes combining yoga, meditation, creative activities, and reflective practice for both students and teachers.

Alongside teaching, I spent 15 years in the corporate sector, experiencing high-pressure professional environments while quietly keeping yoga and mindfulness as part of my own wellbeing. That time reinforced something I feel very strongly about — wellbeing is not a luxury; it is a foundation for a sustainable, healthy life and work.

Completing a 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training course and specialist Children’s Yoga Teacher Training was an important turning point for me. It deepened my understanding of how mindful movement, breathwork, and simple reflective practices can support wellbeing across different ages and in different settings.

How I Work With Children

My work is grounded in trauma-informed practice, which means I’m mindful that children’s behaviour and emotions are often shaped by how safe they feel. Sessions are calm, inclusive and supportive, helping children feel settled, confident and able to engage at their own pace.   Children learn best when they are engaged and enjoying themselves, so sessions include movement, mindfulness, games, storytelling, music and creative activities.

In our sessions, children learn to:

  • move and play

  • breathe and settle

  • create and express

  • connect and belong

The aim is not to create perfect yoga poses, but to help children build confidence, focus, calm and emotional resilience — and to feel that they are part of a space where they are seen and valued. There is a place for every child — the wiggly, the shy, the bold and the curious.

Why Thrive and Flow

Thrive and Flow was created to offer calm, supportive and sustainable wellbeing spaces for children, adults, families and professionals.

I don’t believe wellbeing is about escaping the demands of life. I believe it is about learning how to meet each day with a little more awareness, balance and intention. Through small, consistent practices, we can care for our bodies and minds in ways that build resilience, steadiness and ease — for ourselves and for those around us.
